Website building and selling is exactly what it sounds like. You build a website, and eventually you sell it off. Lots of people actually do this as side income, or to generate large amounts of money.
You can make money by building up a website from scratch. Once it has enough traffic and/or revenue coming in, then you can sell it at a profit. Alternatively, you can just build a site and try to sell it immediately, but with no stats you probably won’t get much for it.
With that said, let’s briefly go over the basics of building a site, monetizing it, and other useful info to help you get started with making sites and selling them for cash.
Building A Website: Here Are The Basics
Here are the basics of building a website:
. Choose A Niche- First you need to choose a niche. Fitness, cars, gaming. . . . Just pick a niche you’re an expert in or don’t mind learning about or you know a lot about.
. Buy A Domain Name- Next, buy a domain name. Choose a domain name that suits your niche. You don’t want to launch a fitness website and name it something in the car niche.
. Select A Website Builder- Choose a site builder, or a content management system. Two popular platforms include Wix and WordPress. Both have been around for a very longtime, and each has their own set of pros and cons.
. Build Your Site- Next, you’ll want to build your site. This is actually fun because it means messing around until you get the design and layout you want. Take your time, but don’t get too stressed out while doing this.
. Create Content- Now you need content for your site. Create unique and original content. Post regularly, and keep SEO best practices in mind as you create content.
. Set Up Analytics- This is easy, and you have lots of choices out there. You can connect your site to Google Analytics, which will track your site and provide you with useful data.
All of that is basic stuff. If you struggle the first time around, don’t worry because things get easier the more you do it. By the time you’re on your 4th, 5th or 6th site, all of the above will come second nature to you.
Monetization: Making Money With Your Website
Once your site goes live, start trying to monetize it right away. Even if you don’t have any traffic coming in, it’s still a good idea to attempt to make money with it right off the bat. This doesn’t mean it will, but you never know if you don’t try. Everyone has an opinion on this, and that’s mine.
That being said, a few ways to monetize your site include:
. Lead generation
. E-commerce (sell goods)
. Sponsored content
. Advertising
. Affiliate marketing
Those are only a handful of ways to monetize a site. The method you should use really depends on what kind of website you built (the niche) and your personal preference.
Increasing The Value Of Your Site
In order to get the most money possible for your website, you need to make it as valuable as possible. One of the best ways to do this is by increasing traffic to your site. You’ll also want to try to build out an email list. If you get traffic to your site and even have a small email list, then your site will be far more valuable than it would be without both of those.
You can also increase the value of your site by developing your website into a strong brand. Do this by having a strong presence on social media. As time goes by and as your followers become more engaged with your site’s social media profiles, then the stronger your brand will become. In turn, your website will become more valuable.
Time To Sell Your Site
Now it’s time to sell your site, and the first thing you should do is determine its value. There are a number of ways to appraise your website, but bear in mind that a number of factors determine how much your site is worth.
Once you have an idea of what your site is worth, you’ll need to sell it. You can list your site on Flippa, or you can attempt to submit it to Empire Flippers if it meets certain criteria.
If a buyer wants to take your site over, then eventually you’ll need to transfer ownership. There are a number of ways you can go about it. Most of the time you’d just contact your domain registrar. Below is a great article on transferring a domain:
